How to maintain a Windows XP PC Computer

First, fantastic file management and staying smart on the internet can go a long way to keeping that computer young and alive.

In addition to keeping the files organized, you can use a tool called disk cleanup. It comes with your XP operating system, so you do not have to worry about downloading something. Here is where to find disk cleanup.
1. Click Start from your task bar, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, then Disk Cleanup.

Another tool that is a must to keeping your computer young is the "Disk Defragmenter", which is also in your System Tools. Disk defragmenter organizes your hard drive files so that your operating system can call on the files more efficiently. It is noteworthy that you must have at least 15% free space on your hard drive to run this application. On the note of disk free space your computer should have greater than 20% free space on its hard drive to optimize its performance.

This task should at least be performed monthly, and for some, even weekly. Do not be distressed though, there is yet another tool that can automate the "Disk Cleanup" and "Disk Defragmentation". Task Scheduler is that application. It is also found in System Tools.
